Team Impression 5

Today was a bit slower than usual as the tea in repro were a few people down so everything was a bit chaotic and it was hard to organize things for me to do. I spent most of the day getting on with some of my own work, making some final touches to my book and catching up on a lot of blogs.
I did spend a bit of time learning some interesting stuff about PDF optimization. One of the big problems that repro face is getting file sizes down in order to send them out to clients. Limitations of most peoples mailboxes is about 10 megabytes without getting problems. Obviously with big multipage documents this can cause a lot of problems. A lot of the time its a case of doing things in the right order, for example, exporting things out of indesign as a small file size, then reducing the file size in acrobat aswell. Also sometimes the guys create java files which can be much small in size, these come as a .jar and are almost like a self loading application in which you get a 3d model of the document that can be turned and rotated and the pages pushed over to get a real book-reading experience. The quality is these is very low but it's a useful way of checking all the pages are in the correct order and nothing is missing ect.
